How Afrikha Roots Network collects, uses and protects information about you, in plain language.
Last updated: 26 August 2026
Who we are
Afrikha Roots Network (ARN) is a Pan-Afrikan digital media channel operated by Utheri Film & TV Productions Limited, trading as Utheri Media Company, a company registered in Nairobi, Kenya. This policy explains how we handle personal data collected through this website, in line with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, and the regulations made under it.
What we collect
We only collect what you give us directly. This site has no user accounts, no e-commerce checkout, and no tracking beyond what's described below. The personal data we may hold about you is:
- Contact form submissions — your name, email address, the reason you selected, and your message, when you use the form on our Contact Us page.
- WhatsApp messages — if you click our WhatsApp button, your conversation with us happens inside WhatsApp itself, governed by WhatsApp's own privacy terms as well as ours.
- Newsletter subscription — if and when we launch an email newsletter, your email address, held with our email service provider once that account exists, and only after you've opted in and confirmed via a double opt-in email.
- Language preference — if you use the language switcher, a small cookie remembers your chosen language for this site only.
We do not knowingly collect payment details, government ID numbers, or any special category of data (health, religion, political opinion, and similar) through this site. Support/donations are processed entirely by PayPal on PayPal's own platform — we never see or store your card or bank details.
Why we collect it
- To respond to your message when you contact us.
- To send you newsletter updates, only if you've actively subscribed and confirmed.
- To remember your language preference across pages you visit on this site.
Our legal basis for holding this data is your consent, given when you submit the contact form, tick the newsletter opt-in, or message us on WhatsApp.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your data to anyone. It's shared only with the specific third-party tools that make this site work, strictly to provide that function:
- Formspree (or an equivalent form-delivery service) — processes and forwards Contact Us form submissions to our inbox.
- Email newsletter provider (not yet selected) — will hold subscriber email addresses once our newsletter launches, under our own account and administrative control.
- Google — the Translate widget on this site is Google's own free service; if you use it, Google may process the page content and your language selection under Google's own privacy terms.
- WhatsApp (Meta) — if you message us via the floating WhatsApp button, that conversation is hosted and governed by WhatsApp's own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to respond to and resolve your inquiry, then deleted or archived securely. Newsletter subscriber data is kept for as long as you remain subscribed, and removed promptly once you unsubscribe.
Your rights
Under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:
- Know what personal data we hold about you and why.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Ask us to delete your data, where there's no overriding reason for us to keep it.
- Withdraw consent at any time — including unsubscribing from our newsletter with one click, or simply asking us by email or WhatsApp to stop holding your details.
- Object to how we're using your data, or lodge a complaint with Kenya's Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) if you believe we haven't handled your data properly.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies: one to remember your language choice if you use the translate widget, and — if we later add analytics (Google Analytics 4) — a consent-gated analytics cookie that will only be set after you actively accept it via a cookie banner. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site grows — for example, once our newsletter platform is chosen, or if we add analytics. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the latest version.
